James Bowling
Born on June 6, 1937, in Courtland, Alabama, James is his father’s namesake and was affectionately nicknamed “Boy” by his dad, who was thrilled to finally have a son after three daughters. James carried that nickname into his teenage years until he insisted on being called by his given name!
James has a quiet, reflective manner, is laid-back, consistent, and 100% dependable. He doesn’t suffer fools gladly. You’d often find him dancing like James Brown, bowling, and he still enjoys playing golf.
James’s early experiences of farming, along with hunting and fishing adventures with his father, laid a strong foundation for his work ethic and resilience. At 13, his life changed when he moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He quickly adapted, securing various part-time jobs, including a role as a stock boy, thanks to his father’s initiative.
James served in the military, training as a jet engine mechanic. He later became a plant manager in Cleveland, moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, as a Manufacturing Supervisor, helped start a new plant in Cold Water, Michigan, and eventually moved to Dayton, Ohio, as a corporate engineer, assisting managers in other plants.
He and his wife Sadie had two children: Brian and Brad; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. James and his partner Pat live an active social life filled with cruises and other activities with friends and family.
